The objective of this study is to achieve consensus on the tasks that can be delegated to deployed Registered Nurses (RNs) in a surged intensive care unit. By identifying these tasks, the study aims to inform the development of targeted orientation and rapid upskill programs. These programs will be specifically designed to prepare nurses for deployment to intensive care units in surge conditions during disaster response scenarios.
Inclusion Criteria: Intensive Care Unit staff who have had experience in preparation, training or supervision of deployed RNs for surge events. These staff may include Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Unit Managers, Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists or Registered nurses with more than 5 years in a team leader role in Intensive Care.
Exclusion Criteria: Nurses who were not practicing in Australia during their surge event or who are not proficient in English will be excluded from participating in this survey.
If you decide to participate, the Real Time Delphi study will involve contributing to an online survey on several occasions over a period of 6 weeks. It is estimated that this will take approximately 60 minutes in total over a six-week period.
